Michael O’Toole is a research development associate for the Center for the Environment. In this role, he leads research proposal development and works collaboratively with faculty to increase the size and impact of WashU’s environmental research portfolio. This includes identifying funding opportunities, building research teams, and providing grant proposal support to increase the competitiveness of large and complex interdisciplinary research initiatives. Prior to joining WashU, Michael worked at the Taylor Geospatial Institute, where he developed programs and initiatives to support faculty pursuing multi-institutional collaborative research in the geospatial sciences. Michael has a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from the University of Chicago, where he also spent several years advising graduate students and postdocs in the art of research communication and public scholarship.
