The Center for the Environment internship program is open to all WashU undergraduate students and typically includes 2-5 students per semester, working on projects from website management to program development.
The Center for the Environment interns participate in the Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change (ESCC) Internship Partnership – a multi-stakeholder program that provides cohort building, professional development, and enrichment training to interns working across diverse teams. Partners in this program include the Office of Sustainability, the Environmental Studies Program, Tyson Research Center, and the Midwest Climate Collaborative.
The Communications Associate will work with the Center for the Environment’s Communications Specialist to strengthen communications and marketing for the center’s initiatives, accomplishments, upcoming events, scholar profiles, and research stories. The Associate will help manage the Center for the Environment’s ongoing communications needs. Duties will include coordinating with campus partners to develop website content; developing communications materials, including flyers, posters, and pamphlets; assisting with the monthly Center for the Environment newsletter; maintaining and building the Center for the Environment’s Instagram social media communications; and more.

The Center for the Environment is hiring a Research Development Intern who will contribute to the Center’s goal of supporting WashU researchers pursuing large-scale, interdisciplinary funding opportunities with an environmental impact. This position will work closely with the Center’s Research Development Associate to help strengthen the Center’s research support services, which include identifying funding opportunities and trends, planning and facilitating collaboration workshops, and supporting research teams in the proposal development process. It is intended for a current graduate student with an interest in deepening their knowledge of the funding landscape for environmental research and gaining practical experience in providing research support services to faculty across the university.
Responsibilities will be tailored to the strengths and interests of the intern and may include researching trends and funding opportunities in environmental research, analyzing data to better understand WashU’s environmental research profile, contributing to the planning of collaborative research workshops, and improving the Center’s systems for tracking funding opportunities and proposals supported. The experience provided by this position will be valuable for students interested in pursuing research careers as well as students interested in pursuing careers in research development or higher education administration.
