Audience: Graduate Students & Postdocs in Climate/environment related fields
To make an impact on climate action, gain funding for their work, and connect with communities – researchers need to share their research effectively and tailor their talks for diverse audiences. To build these skills, researchers can learn about and apply concepts in storytelling and neuroscience.
Participants will work through a process based on National Geographic’s course for storytelling and research from Ted Talks. This training is delivered as interactive, experiential learning with practice and feedback with experts and peers.
By the end of the session, participants will
- Construct a framework (what’s your goal, who’s your audience, what’s your core message)
- Identify your impact or “So, what?”
- Practice tailoring a brief pitch for different audiences
- Apply storytelling techniques when talking about your research (e.g., curiosity, novelty, hooks, analogies)
