As the interdisciplinary hub for environmental research at WashU, the Center for the Environment provides programming to support development of new teams and research projects within the themes of the center. Center programming supports general networking and new connections as well as targeted support of teams taking on complex and meaningful projects.

Environmental Research Collaboration Series

The Environmental Research Collaboration Series is a monthly interdisciplinary lunch gathering for WashU faculty and staff.

This series builds community among researchers and allows for learning from colleagues while also: highlighting specific projects, sharing tools, and generating ideas for future collaboration. Join us at an upcoming event to start getting involved.

Research Support Services

The Center for the Environment supports researchers at the university in various ways: 

  • Organizing and facilitating proposal team meetings 
  • Help with project management of proposal development  
  • Identification and introduction to potential collaborators and partners 
  • Support with some graphics 
  • Letter of support and letter of collaboration 
  • Reviews of proposal drafts by Center staff and Center Scholars 

Environmental Graduate Student Community

Graduate students from across all schools and departments gather regularly for programming to support interdisciplinary learning and community growth. Opportunities include:

  • Social programming

Summer Undergraduate Research

At WashU, undergraduate students have the opportunity to spend the summer conducting research alongside principal investigators, graduate students, and peers – working to address societal and environmental challenges in an interdisciplinary cohort.

Internships

Center for the Environment Internships provide a paid opportunity for WashU students to support center programming and initiatives. This program also provides professional development and enrichment training to interns.

Office of Sustainability

The Office of Sustainability facilitates, convenes and partners with university leaders and community partners to work toward a more sustainable campus and world.

Academic Programs and Courses

WashU provides numerous opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to study environmental topics and issues. These programs and courses span all eight of our degree conferring schools.
